What is your occupation outside of podcasting: I am an analyst for the Department of Treasury (So…Professional Nerd)

Name of podcast: It’s About DAMN Time
What's it about? It’s About DAMN Time is a conversational podcast that is designed to broaden perspectives and change the way people see the world. I enlist the help of thought leaders from various areas of expertise in fitness, relationships, finance, mental health, & more to inspire open dialog and encourage different viewpoints.
Why is there a need for podcasts like yours? Most people are influenced by the people around them and their own experiences. It’s hard to learn about the benefits of reiki if you grew up in a strict Southern Baptist household or educate yourself about different relationship structures if all the people you know are in traditional monogamous relationships. I just want to create a place for people to expand their minds in a completely nonjudgmental, relaxed conversation.
How'd you get into podcasting? I was a blogger. I had people tell me that I should get into podcasting but the very thought of that scared the crap out of me. So I pretended podcasting didn’t exist until I got enlisted by a friend to co host her show.
How long have you been podcasting? I’ve been doing my podcast for 2 and a half years but after finding a clip of the aforementioned podcast my friend asked me to cohost with her…I can shockingly say, I’ve been talking into a mic for the majority of 10 years now. Wow.
What's one thing you wished you'd known about podcasting when you started? I wish I knew that the “talking” part of podcasting is the easiest part. And I should have really paid attention to those audio engineering classes in college that I skipped to hang in the Student Union Building.
In a few sentences tell me briefly, about one of your favorite episodes or interviews from your podcast? My favorite episode is probably my most painful episode. “Tryin’ To Make It” was an episode where I was in the middle of a depressive stint where I felt hopeless and worthless. I was trying to fight through it and getting myself up to record that episode helped me to keep pushing.
What are 3 resources or tips you've learned in your podcast journey?
Imposter Syndrome is real…but do it scared. You will appreciate yourself later.
The people that love you as a person may not be the same people that love your podcast. Be okay with that.
Stop comparing your podcast to others. Your voice is unique and needed. (I’m kinda still learning that lesson)
What are your hopes for the future of podcasting? I would love for people to treat the search in their favorite podcast platform like it’s Google. If you are about to go on a roadtrip and you want to learn about Magnesium or Polyamory or the MCU, type it in and explore the possibilities.
