What is your podcast? Our Black Gay Diaspora Podcast
What's it about? ur Black Gay Diaspora Podcast is a global biweekly platform where Black LGBTQ professionals share about their countries and professions. I interview individuals who inspire and educate others about who they are, highlighting a population often overlooked by mainstream LGBTQ+ and Black media outlets.
What is your goal? To highlight the professional and personal experiences of Black LGBTQ+ global citizens, enhancing the perceptions existing both within and outside of the group. To create a professional and personal networking community.
How'd You get into podcasting? Prior too creating, hosting, and producing Our Black Gay Diaspora Podcast, I co-hosted and produced the Wallflowers in Bloom Podcast, a biweekly podcast where we interviewed self-identified introverts. Guests include an Icelandic sculptor, an American psychiatrist, and a British photographer and filmmaker.
What's one thing you wished you'd known about podcasting when you started?
In a few sentences tell me briefly, about one of your favorite episodes or interviews from your podcast? One of my favorite episodes is with Cameron Johnson (Ep. 22), the American screenwriter, director, and producer who’s written for series like Fox’s Empire, the CW’s Nancy Drew, and BET’s Zoe Ever After starring actress and singer Brandy Norwood. Cameron was also co-creator and executive producer of the CW series Tom Swift, a spin-off of Nancy Drew. I like how he uses his professional credentials and personal experiences to create Black openly gay characters.
What are some resources or tips you've learned in your podcast journey? To be effective, I've learned that 1) it's vital to have a genuine interest in the subject, 2) preparation includes having questions and thoroughly researching each guest, and 3) the guest and what they share is the focus.
