DMC is one third of Run-DMC the most important group in hip hop history. Run-DMC were rap’s first superstars and their success helped the genre become a global phenomenon. But through all the triumphs, DMC was unhappy. He was an alcoholic who became depressed and then suicidal. He thought about how to kill himself all the time. Then he found out he was adopted. This is an amazingly honest life story.
“Scapegoating” With Ciara Bridges (She/They/My Guy)
Shantae goes deeper into the “high-school-verse” and meets one of her high school friends’ high school friends: Ciara. In this episode, Ciara tells the story of how they came out of their shell through a series of haircuts -- including the time they cut off their bright blue fro, broke up with their then boyfriend, and embraced their queerness.
What We Are Loving
Ryan Woodhall – The Diplomat
I loved the first season of this new Netflix show starring Keri Russell. Part political thriller and part dramedy, The Diplomat centers around a U.S. ambassador to the U.K. and her close circle of family and colleagues. Although the show takes some creative liberties, it offers an interesting and realistic glimpse into the job of international diplomacy.
Fun Fact
